MODULE 2
GOVERNANCE & POLICY

IN PERSON | 10AM – 4.00PM
- A full day with Dr Kobi Leins and Maranda McLaren translating ISO 42001 and ISO 42005 into practical governance.
- Explore AI as a socio-technical system, including the people, data, vendors, workflows, incentives, assumptions and consequences surrounding AI use.
- Use the AI Lifecycle Model to understand how governance needs shift as AI moves from exploration to pilot, operational use, integration and adaptive use.
- Use the LEAD framework to frame a priority AI use case.
- Apply key governance qualities including transparency, explainability, reliability, robustness, fairness, contestability and meaningful human oversight.
- Use the 5Ps Control Canvas — Policy, Processes, People, Productivity/Performance and Planning
- Draft practical governance artefacts including an AI Use Case Register, AI Impact Screen, control canvas, decision thresholds, procurement prompts, monitoring approach and governance review plan.
- Examine real-world AI governance failures and lessons
- Must complete Module 1 first.
MODULE 3
PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION

- Apply the AI Management System components drafted in Module 2 to real implementation scenarios within their own organisational context
- Work through scenario-based decision exercises that test governance frameworks under operational pressure
- Refine and stress-test governance documents against real-world constraints, including commercial trade-offs, procurement decisions, and cross-functional accountability
- Develop implementation roadmaps that translate governance intent into operational practice

The gap
AI is being designed, deployed, and governed right now. Inside boards, audit committees, risk forums, policy teams. The rooms where the rules get written.
But the people in those rooms don’t yet reflect the full range of perspectives the systems will affect. AI governance is still shaped disproportionately by a narrow band of disciplines, professional backgrounds, and lived experiences. The rest of us are downstream of decisions we weren’t part of making.

AI risk doesn’t sit neatly inside one function, it cuts across business functions legal, data, engineering, product, compliance, operations and capital decisions. Yet most organisations don’t have a common language for that. They don’t have shared decision frameworks. And critically, they don’t have leaders who can translate technical, ethical and regulatory risk into practical commercial choices at board level. This fragmented ownership of AI risk is the real problem. AI engineers alone can’t solve it. Traditional legal counsel can’t solve it. Meet Kobi Leins
With over 20 years of experience across legal, academic, and consulting roles, Dr Leins has demonstrated ability to operationalise ISO 42001 AI Management Standards and specialises in building long-term relationships for profound value creation and risk management.
By day, she advises organisations on strategic direction and culture for AI implementation, creating policies and processes to stay ahead of incoming regulation, making her ideally positioned to teach systems thinkers not just current requirements, but future regulatory landscapes.
Her passion for advancing ethical, responsible AI use, combined with her PhD in New War Technologies and International Law from the University of Melbourne and role as co-host of the AI Australia podcast, ensures programme participants learn from someone who is simultaneously defining international standards, implementing governance frameworks, and educating Australia’s emerging AI community.
