The Program

She’s A Crowd is a tech startup which uses crowdsourced data to make cities safer for women and gender-diverse people, and close the gender data gap.

Zoe Condiffe, their Founder and CEO, has had the idea to build a data insights dashboard since she first started She’s A Crowd in 2018. Working with the Department of Transport Victoria provided them with the perfect opportunity to bring this product to life. The development of the product was a big organisational achievement in itself. It has now enabled them to scale the way customers access their data in a safe, secure and effective way. Signing a $200,000 contract with the Department of Transport enabled them to grow significantly between 2020 FY and 2021 FY, with a revenue growing from $68K to $161K. The data insights dashboard will continue to allow She’s A Crowd to scale significantly, taking their projections for 2022 FY to $221K.

The Challenge

  • 9 in 10 Australian women have experienced street harassment and have had to modify their behaviour as a result. Source: Australia Institute
  • What is gender based violence?  Gender-based violence stems from rigid gender roles and is a direct consequence of gender inequality. However, violence can and does occur in non-binary and same sex relationships. Current statistics show that trans women, non-binary people, Indigenous women, cis women, women with disabilities and the LGBTQIA+ community are more likely to experience gender-based violence. Gender-based violence is called many different things, including domestic violence, family violence, intimate partner violence, sexual harassment and sexual assault.

The Reward

  • Now the biggest geospatial dataset of sexual assault and DV in the world with over 100,000 reports in their database.
  • 50% of adults with disability have experienced violence after the age of 15
